Women’s Health Q & A

What is women’s health care?

Women’s health care encompasses all of the medical concerns and needs that women have throughout their lives. This includes many different aspects of your health, from routine health maintenance and preventive care to disease diagnosis, treatment, and planning for the future.

What does women’s health care encompass?

Women’s health care includes everything you need to be healthy, with a particular focus on your reproductive health. Some of the many different aspects of women’s health care include:

  • Well-woman exams
  • Immunizations like the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, flu shot, and COVID-19 vaccine
  • Pap smears to screen for cervical cancer
  • Breast cancer testing and prevention
  • Osteoporosis (bone thinning) screenings
  • Sexually transmitted disease testing
  • Chronic disease prevention and management
  • Diagnosis and treatment of reproductive health problems
  • Birth control, including the Mirena® intrauterine device (IUD) and the Nexplanon® implant
  • Family planning

Your provider at Border Clinic, PLLC, will customize your women’s health care based on several things, including your age, disease risk, medical history, personal wishes, and future goals.

Your women’s health care needs may change over time, particularly from childbearing years and into the post-menopausal period. You can rely on the Border Clinic, PLLC, team for compassionate care that’s truly sensitive to your needs at every point in your life.

How often do I need women’s health care?

Women are unfortunately prone to certain conditions that men rarely have to deal with, such as osteoporosis. In addition, women can develop a variety of issues with their reproductive organs. So, even if you’re feeling quite well, it’s important to schedule women’s wellness and preventive care visits once a year to monitor and maintain your health.

You may also need women’s health care services in between your annual physicals if you experience new symptoms, such as very painful periods or heavy bleeding.

If you’re worried about exposure to an STD, want to make changes to your birth control, or get help with family planning, you may also want to reach out to Border Clinic, PLLC.

When you’re due for a women’s health checkup, need new birth control, or have other female health needs, Border Clinic, PLLC, is always ready to help. To schedule an appointment for women’s health services, call the office in Laredo, Texas, or book online today.
